Sweet Etsy Goodness Interview and Giveaway - KimDot

Okay, I am biased, Aoife is the best. I got to know her just before she moved from Clonmell to Vancover and have loved her work since I saw it through the Etsy Ireland team. She is so creative; is just oozes from her every pore and everything she does. I am so happy and proud to have her here on my blog. The fact that she is also doing a giveaway is so freakin' brilliant I could squeal - one of my super lucky readers could win a piece of her (continously inspiring) work!! Take it away Aoife.......

Hello everyone! My name is Aoife from KimDot and I'm originally from Tipperary in Ireland but now living in Vancouver, BC.

1. Shop names are so important and personal; where did you get yours from? My shop name came from my beautiful dalmatian, Kim. She was a very good friend and a treasure to my family, she even looked after and guarded us when we were sick. She had the biggest and most caring personality I have ever known from a dog. I loved her dearly and I decided to name my shop KimDot after her and her pretty dots.
2. Where do you find that you get your inspiration from? Everywhere. I always carry a little notebook and pencil wherever I go so I can jot down things that come into my head. I work in a hammock store so I write down most of my ideas while I'm sitting in the hammocks, either in work or elsewhere. I'm especially inspired living in a beautiful city like Vancouver with snowy mountains, twinkling tall buildings and gorgeous beaches.
3. How do you keep up your motivation? Lists and goals and then more goals and lists. I started getting into the habit of writing down a big end goal and then little achievable goals that lead up to it. Doing these little goals lets me see how much I have accomplished on the way and keeps me motivated to continue. Even if the big goal isn't as possible as you might have thought, the little goals always help you learn or achieve something of value along the way.
4. Do you see your art and shop as a reflection of yourself? Absolutely. You couldn't enjoy your work if it wasn't a reflection of yourself. It's something I had to deal with in college a lot. It felt like most of my work was based on my tutors likes and dislikes, not my own. Having my own shop and blog is so freeing, I enjoy my work so much more now that I have full creative control.
5. Where has this artistic journey taken you so far? So many places. I've found that owning at Etsy store teaches you so many valuable and transferable skills. I have dabbled in everything from fine art oil painting to graffiti writing, and from selling on line I have discovered that being a full time photographer is my career goal. I started getting a lot of customers who saw my photos on Etsy but didn't have an account, so they wanted to buy directly from me. This interest surprised me and showed me how much I loved bustling around for photographs.
6. Does Art enhance your life? Oh yes! Not only has art itself been a huge part of my life since I was very little, it has also helped me meet some of the most important people in my life and taken me to amazing places.

7. Can we have one pearl of wisdom you have learnt along the way? No matter what you want to achieve, say it out loud to as many people as possible. I've learnt that if you do this you'd be amazed at how many opportunities will present themselves, often unexpectedly. Somebody always knows someone who knows someone. Put it out there and you will always get something back.

8. How important is feedback to you? Very. I feel it's so important to listen to the people who are choosing to buy from you. I've learned a lot in customer relations from my Ebay store and transfered them to Etsy and my purchase pages on my blog.

9. Are you a member of any teams on Etsy - does this help? I'm a member of the Etsy Ireland Team (search craftyirelandteam on etsy) but I stopped using this when I moved to British Columbia. I just felt guilty using their tags when the items weren't coming from Ireland. The team is fantastic, friendly and has a great sense of community and helping out others. I was also a short lived member of other teams who were snooty and unhelpful... they made me appreciate the Irish team a lot more. Teams can be great when you find the right ones.

10. How do you feel about your life right now? I'm in a fantastic place in my life right now. I live in a beautiful area of the world in a job that allows me to keep up my creativity. I'm doing a lot of studying, researching and goal achievements for my photography. Things are exciting and busy and I love it!
